This is an example of a typical setup for a Linux server backup. Assume, you want to back up the directories /root and /home of your server mybox with IP address 10.200.48.1. The server mybox has the rsync binary installed and is running sshd service on port 22.

Log into the Affa server and create the configuration file /etc/affa/mybox.conf

[mybox]
remoteHostName=10.200.48.1
Include=/root
Include=/home

Check the configuration syntax

affa --config-check

Send the public key to the mybox server

Note-icon.gif Note:
When initially doing this step, you may need to temporarily set "Password Authentication yes" in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file on the mybox server. You can disable password auth once the key has been sent.

affa --send-key mybox

Run the job manually

affa --run mybox

When the job has finished check the status by running

affa --status

and

affa --list-archives mybox

If you want the just defined job to be run daily at 10:30 pm, add the following name=value properties to the config file.

TimeSchedule=2230
status=enabled
